Chemotherapy are medicines used to destroy cancer cells in your body and help in curing or controlling the growth of cancer. Chemotherapy can be given as injections or through the mouth.
Medical Oncology is an integral part of cancer treatment which deals with administration of medicines against cancer. Medicines against cancer include chemotherapy, targeted therapy, hormones, vaccines and supportive medicines.
- Efficient delivery of chemotherapy and targeted therapy for all types of cancer, including common cancers like breast cancer, cervical cancer,lung cancer,stomach and intestinal cancers, lymphomas and leukaemias.
- Delivery of Immuno therapy for certain types of cancer.
- Bone marrow transplantation and stem cell transplantation to cure some types of aggressive cancers.
- Minor procedures like bone marrow aspiration/biopsy for diagnosis and pleural/ascitic fluid tapping and special mode of administration of chemotherapy like Intrathecal and HIPEC (Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy) routes.
- Counselling regarding genetic testing for individuals at high risk or family history of cancer and also appropriate screening tests for detecting cancers at early stages which can make it highly curative.
- Providing medicines for symptom relief, pain control and palliative steps to improve the quality of life for patients with advanced cancer including 'end of life' care in close collaboration with palliative care specialists.
